St. George’s New Bike Trail Network: What’s Opening in 2026

Grab your helmet, because St. George is about to get a whole lot more rideable with St. George’s New Bike Trail Network.

This year brings six new miles of paved trail along the Southern Parkway. A new river-crossing connector opens near Springs Park. A full east-west link will run through the Santa Clara River Trail. More singletrack keeps climbing the hills above town at the Cliffrose Trail System. Some of it breaks ground this spring. Some of it is already rolling. All of it means more places to ride close to home.

Here’s the full rundown of what’s coming, when to expect it, and why this year is a big one for local riders.

The Southern Parkway Gets Six New Miles

The biggest paved addition this year runs along State Route 7, also known as the Southern Parkway. Crews will build six miles of trail between Interstate 15 and Desert Canyons Parkway. Construction starts this spring, with the trail expected to open by fall or winter.

This section will plug into something much bigger. It’s part of the Utah Trail Network. That’s a statewide plan aiming to build 3,100 miles of paved, protected paths across Utah. St. George already has a strong head start. The city’s system now stretches close to 90 miles, up from 60 to 70 miles a few years back.

A New Bridge Between North and South

Right now, riders on the Virgin River Trail hit a break near Springs Park and Mall Drive. That gap is closing. Construction on the connector began in March and should wrap by fall. It will link the north and south sides of the river into one continuous ride.

Riding Straight Across Town

The most exciting connection links St. George’s east and west sides through the Santa Clara River Trail. Work on this section starts this summer. Once it’s finished, riders can pedal from Ivins all the way to Washington. They won’t have to leave the trail system. That’s a full city crossing on two wheels.

City planners are also floating ideas for bringing trails into downtown itself, possibly along Tabernacle Street and Main Street. Nothing is locked in yet, but it’s a sign of how much momentum this system has right now.

More Singletrack at Cliffrose

Paved trails aren’t the only thing growing. Up in the Pine Valley District of the Dixie National Forest, the Cliffrose Trail System keeps expanding. Crews have already built twenty-one miles of singletrack, with roughly 22 more miles planned for the network. It’s part of a larger 63-mile project. That plan will eventually add an entirely new trail system near Pine Valley too.

If you love flowy descents and technical climbs, this is the one to watch this year.

Why This Matters for Riders

More trail miles mean more reasons to get out and ride. That’s true whether you’re commuting, training, or just exploring on a Saturday morning. St. George’s trail counters logged over 1.28 million uses in 2025 alone, and that number keeps climbing every year.

Our team has been fitting Southern Utah riders with the right bikes since 1984. We’ve watched this town grow into one of the best cycling destinations in the region. Stop by our shop, and you’ll hear stories from staff who’ve ridden most of these trails themselves.

Getting Ready to Ride

New trails call for the right setup. A road commuter bike works great for the paved Southern Parkway and river connectors. A trail-ready mountain bike is a better match for Cliffrose’s climbs and descents. Either way, dialing in your fit before opening day makes every ride smoother.

Not sure which trails match your riding style yet? Our trail guide breaks down routes by difficulty and location. Plan your next ride before you even clip in.

Frequently Asked Questions About St George’s New Bike Trail Network

When will the Southern Parkway trail be finished?

Construction starts in spring 2026. The six-mile section should open by fall or winter of that year.

Will the new trails connect to existing paths in St. George?

Yes. Every project on this list links directly into the existing trail system, closing gaps rather than building isolated paths.

Do I need a mountain bike for the Cliffrose Trail System?

A mountain bike built for singletrack is the best choice. The terrain includes climbs, descents, and technical features. Trail-specific tires and suspension handle it better than a road or hybrid bike.
